The Feed Mill - Jordan, MN

I recently found a restaurant that proved to be a pleasant surprise. The Feed Mill is a little diner that sits on the Minnesota River in Jordan, MN about 40 minutes from Minneapolis.

My wife and I were in the area for Thanksgiving and spent the previous day visiting friends. Good times were had by all. Babies smiled and cooed. Puppies laid next to us soaking up cuddles. Alcohol flowed. I awoke the next day with a thick head, ready for something to help me ease the pain of the conviviality from the night before.

The Feed Mill was chosen by the group we were with. The location is right in downtown Jordan. There is plenty of parking both on the street, and in a garage nearby. When you walk in, you are greeted by a rustic setting. This place was an authentic mill once upon a time. We were quickly whisked away to a table. It is a little hard to see here, but the dinning room provides a great shot of the Minnesota River and the local baseball stadium.

The pictures do not do the view justice. We immediately get the standard items. Water. Coffee. Menus.

The coffee? Absolutely delicious. It was the best greasy spoon coffee I’ve had in a long time. Not too strong. Not too weak. A hint of sweetness. Delightful.

The menu was the standard diner fare. They serve breakfast and lunch. I asked someone in our group what they’d recommend the choice: the Cajun Breakfast. Add the Cajun sausage. Done deal. Say less. I’m rolling with it.

It was joy on a plate. Eggs, spicy Cajun sausage onions, peppers and mushrooms, served on a bed of hash browns. Topped with hollandaise, and cayenne pepper.

I can’t describe it. I love bold flavors and this dish delivered. The combination of ingredients was a perfect blend of spice, crunch, flavor, and moistness. It was absolutely divine.

I needed a fantastic meal to prop me up and ease my hangover. The Feed Mill delivered. The food is good with or without a round of drinking. This joint is a great slice of small-town life that serves up great food to a diverse customer base. I can’t wait to come back!
