Heart of Arabia Expedition - Complete!

  While it is a bit late, I would like to congratulate the The Heart of Arabia Expedition team on the successful completion of their journey! The expedition concluded on January 30th, 2023, when the team reached Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

 The team of Mark Evans, MBE, Ana-Maria Pavalache, Alan Morrissey, and Reem Philby set out on November 15th, 2022 for the first stage of their two-stage expedition.

 The 1,300km trek across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia loosely followed the steps of Harry St John Philby's 1917 mission to Ibn Saud, the Kingdom's first leader. Utilizing walking, camels, and 4X4 vehicles, they also collected field data, which supported the work of 3 research projects focusing on chiropterology, lithic artifacts, and health and performance in extreme environments. The team also met with various Saudi leaders.

EXPEDITION FINSE 2023

 

When you think of Norway, you think of Oslo or Bergen. But Finse? That one does not normally make the list. From 10-12 February, the small town of Finse, Norway will be host to one of the world's largest gatherings of explorers and adventurers. Expedition Finse 2023 could easily be considered a "midwinter" meeting of some of the most exciting people on the planet.

Lectures, tutorials and other outdoor adventures will be taking place. Additionally, some attendees have the option of camping on the property, instead of staying in a hotel room. While I am not so sure that I would have the heart to do this, there will undoubtedly be a number of hearty souls chomping at the bit to do it. One positive for camping outdoors? The conditions are like those found in polar regions. If you have a cold-weather expedition coming up, this is a terrific opportunity to get some practice in. 

Among those in attendance will be John Shears and Nico Vincent from the Endurance22 Expedition , and world-renowned Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland. This will be an amazing opportunity to rub elbows with some of the most famous explorers in the modern world!
